The perfect wilderness survival course for those that desire a level of comfort while learning. Personal camping / backpacking gear will be allowed, as well as food from home. Students will overnight in personal tents (or hammocks), and they will cook over a camp fire, using their chosen food selections for their evening meals and breakfasts. Finger foods for snacking will also be allowed. Bottled water will be provided for the duration of the course. Curriculum will include the following: camping skills; proper camping gear; camp fire cooking; the seven priorities of survival: 1) positive mental attitude, 2) wilderness first aid, 3) shelter, 4) fire craft, 5) signaling, 6) water, and, 7) food; wilderness confidence; small group behavior; wilderness teamwork and leadership; proper planning; the personal survival kit; wilderness safety; and, lost behavior. Hands-on training will include knots, hitches, and lashings; building emergency-action shelters; fire building; signaling for rescue; water procurement and disinfection; improvisation of equipment; and, map and compass. Max course size will be eight students. A $100 tuition deposit will reserve a course slot.
