Cozy Living is the perfect course for those who desire an extended period of time in the woods to practice outdoor living, and to learn advanced survival skills. Students are allowed to bring backpacks, tents, and camping gear, and will have the OPTION to overnight in their tents or the shelters they construct. Bottled water will be provided, and students may bring all the food they want from home. Students will be allowed to bring their backpacks. Curriculum will include the following: camping skills; proper camping gear; camp fire cooking; the seven priorities of survival: 1) positive mental attitude, 2) wilderness first aid, 3) shelter, 4) fire craft, 5) signaling, 6) water, and, 7) food; wilderness confidence; small group behavior; wilderness teamwork and leadership; proper planning; the personal survival kit; wilderness safety; and, lost behavior. Hands-on training will include knots, hitches, and lashings; building / and option to sleep in two kinds of emergency-action shelters; building / and option to sleep in a natural shelter; fire building, including fire-by-friction; signaling for rescue; water procurement and disinfection; map & compass; improvisation of equipment; traps and snares; jerky making; and, rabbit cleaning, and cooking the rabbit on a spit over the camp fire. Max course size is eight students. A $175 tuition deposit will reserve a course slot.
