BARE BONES
3-days, 2-nights.
Tuition: $325 per person. Mitchell, GA location. Start time: Fri., 10 am. End time: Sun., NLT noon. Class size: 8 max. A horse of a different color for sure and probably no other wilderness survival class like it. The Bare Bones. No tents. No hammocks. No backpacks. No sleeping pads. No food other than issued rations, which will be limited. Yes, coffee, tea, and cocoa will be offered. No commercial eating utensils. Map and compass navigation through the brush. Two camps. Fire-by-friction. Fishing. Traps & snares. Water will be procured from natural sources and filtered and disinfected when required. Adults, 18+. At the end of class a top scorer will be announced and awarded bragging rights and a nice prize. Each student successfully completing the class will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. CURRICULUM
Students will learn the importance of proper preparedness and the knowledge, skills, and techniques associated with the seven survival priorities: 1) Positive Mental Attitude (PMA); 2) Wilderness First Aid; 3) Shelter; 4) Fire; 5) Signaling; 6) Water; and, 7) Food. Students will overnight in improvised shelters that they construct. Improvised packs will be made from ponchos and Alaskan pack straps will be utilized. On Day One students will make fire using ferro rods and on Day Two they will eat once they accomplish fire using the bow and drill method. Students will also be able to supplement their rations by fishing. That's about it other than a few things Byron just doesn't mention. No worries; the Bare Bones is a bodacious time.
