BKSS is for and about our students
Every idea that goes into this business is about our students. They are the core from which all thoughts radiate. It is our constant concern that we
provide a training curriculum that will satisfy people of all ages and from all walks of life. Also of importance is that we continue to evolve our course
designs so that we reach a broad student base - from those that have no camping experience to those that want a Bear Grylls experience in the
woods. It is a challenge we gladly accept with confidence.

About BKSS
Survival training is for everyone
No matter your camping or wilderness experience, if you feel a need or desire
for wilderness survival training, then get the training. Put the survival books
aside. Take a break from all the survival videos on YouTube. Get outside and off
the couch - live your own survival reality show. Make the time, put work aside,
face your fears, deal with the weather and the insects, and sign-up for training.
Students from all walks of life request Byron's survival training for whatever their
reasons. Over the yearshe has taught housewives, fighter pilots, lawyers,
doctors, hunters, artists, IT professionals, accountants, corporate CEOs,
government officials, private pilots, guides and outfitters, search and rescue
volunteers, medical aircrews, teachers - the list goes on. The knowledge and
skills Byron will share will last a lifetime.
In the city, in the woods ... no matter where you are
As a prospective student, whether you realize it or not, the survival training at BKSS is not just for the woods. The applications reach far -
whether in the city, at home, traveling, or in a remote location. A recent testimony from an Assistant High School Principal sheds light on this
statement: "You sharing your love and knowlege about "Positive Mental Attitude" has uplifted me in ways that I cannot describe to you." This
BKSS graduate is speaking about what we call PMA - Priority #1 in a survival situation. Will you give up or panic? How well will you handle an
adverse situation in everyday life? What kind of attitude do you exhibit most often around co-workers, friends, and family? The PMA training and
a better understanding of the "peaks and valleys of life," coupled with new-found confidence are only a piece of the graduate take-away pie.
It ain't rocket science
Byron has come to the radical belief that wilderness
survival is not rocket science. Adhere to this bit of his
philisophical advice and you can't go wrong:
Always be
prepared to help others at all times in the wilderness
.

By having the willingness to help others you will
help yourself. A mind-boggling concept sometimes
disguised as leadership.
The BKSS partnership-for-life program
Without the caring and unselfish support of his darling wife none of Byron's
efforts at BKSS would be possible. His partner, his best friend, and his biggest
fan, Francine is an ER nurse with plenty of patience and patients. She makes
every effort possible to join students in camp, where she provides positive
mental attitude and an aura of medical calmness.

In 2008, Byron's father, Garland Kerns, passed away at age 92 in Logansport,
Indiana. A few hours prior, he had grabbed Byron's arm and sternly said, "Don't
ever let go of this lady! She's a good woman!"

About BKSS
Byron and Francine speak often of that comment, saying they're cursed and stuck together forever. Well, ladies and gentlemen, they
think that's a right good thing.

When they're not at work or traveling, Byron and Francine can be found at their central Florida ranch, Tahavadream,
relaxing and tending to their critters.
